Kids Stories
Dylan

Dylan is 12 years-old and started bouldering last school year at BoulderHouse Langford. Dylan quickly showed ability and skill. They moved from discovery classes in September 2023 to approval to climb the adult wall by December 2023 and then moved into development classes by January 2024. Dylan is passionate about bouldering and fully committed. They are “all in”! They enjoyed a week of summer camp with Boulderhouse Langford and were able to try rock climbing outside near Macaulay Point. This was a highlight for them. They like to practice as often as possible and during the summer often went bouldering 3-5x a week when able. They feel inspired by their instructors who are wonderful, positive, encouraging mentors. They plan to attend Belmont High School in two years to participate in the school bouldering program offered at the BoulderHouse Langford location.
In one year, Dylan has moved from yellow tapes to orange, green, blue, purple and even a red tape. It is pretty amazing to watch Dylan grow in confidence. Dylan has a lot of persistence and can be found at BoulderHouse in the late evenings working on a purple tape for over a solid hour. They have perseverance and it has been such a process of joy and growth. They wear their BoulderHouse t-shirts almost daily and proudly sport the club name as their own. BoulderHouse has become part of their identity and community.
Dylan has dyslexia and a speech impediment. When bouldering Dylan is in their element and feels like they have a place to belong. They feel like they fit and don’t feel anxious about their challenges. Boulderhouse staff have created a sense of community for Dylan. So if you ever get out to BoulderHouse in Langford and see a youth slinging their chalk bag and shoes racing ahead before their parent, that would be Dylan. They are very excited to start Club this year, which will include two days of coaching each week for 1.5 hours each. KidSport has helped to make this possible. We are so appreciative! Having a sport to identify and belong to has shifted Dylan’s perspective positively and the grant monies was happily and tearfully received. Thank you so much!
Dylan’s future dream is to become a BoulderHouse staff by age 16 and to have a twitch or YouTube channel that will bring in income as Dylan is also very passionate about video gaming. Aside from bouldering and video gaming, Dylan doesn’t mind spending 1:1 time with mom and enjoys their 1:1 special days.
Thank you so much, Leisha and Dylan

Hassan, Abdul and Mira
Thanks to the generosity of the contributors to Kidsport, the family can afford Peninsula Soccer Association registration for Hassan, Abdul and Mira.
As refugees from Raqqa Syria, this family has been successfully building a new financially self-sufficient life in Sidney—until the mother became seriously ill. Although the prognosis is hopeful for the longer term, her treatment and its consequences have been disabling and she has had to stop work.
The parishioners of Holy Trinity Church had established a fund to provide the family financial assistance, especially for educational, sports and other extracurricular activities for the children. With the loss of half the family income, this fund was redirected to help with short term expenses, especially the rent.
Happily, Kidsport stepped in and covered $650 of the $950 cost for Hassan, Abdul and Mira’s soccer for the 2024-25 season--for which the family is extremely grateful. On top of Kidsport’s generosity, Delta Marine Services stepped in to donate half of the remainder, leaving the family with only an affordable $150.00 to pay.

Semse and Khalid are extremely grateful.
“We just want to say a big thank you to KidSport for helping our kids to play basketball this year. Three of our children have been sponsored and we are so grateful. They have wonderful coaches and are loving the game. Their skills are improving and they’re having fun. Thanks again for making it possible!”
